Situated atop the hill with views of the Aegean sea, villa Ela serves as a family abode. The renovation and additions encompass a reconfiguration of spaces, unfolding through multiple levels of intervention. The intention was to rework the existing space by building new relationships between interior and exterior, as well as between the dwelling and its surrounding environment.
Adjustments are made through shifts in materiality, redefinition of thresholds, and selective additions on both the interior and exterior that allow new continuities to emerge without erasing the underlying structure. The new design incorporates the use of local stone and materials from the island, rainwater collection and solar energy systems.
Interior works include material adjustments across all areas, a full gut renovation of kitchens and bathrooms, and the introduction of new furnishings that recalibrate the interior atmosphere. Exterior works reorganize the relationship to site through a system of terraces connecting multiple outdoor zones, landscape interventions, and the addition of a guest house.
