Sieste de Chat
A Mobile Pavilion for Shade, Play, and Reuse
Montpellier, France • Collaboration with Liam Martin / Superinfra
Catnap / Sieste de Chat is a playful and adaptive pavilion designed to meander through the courtyard like a contented cat basking in the sunlight. Composed of 3 to modular units on wheels, this installation responds to the rhythm of summer days, shifting between sunlit patches and shaded retreats.
Crafted from upcycled local scaffolding and finished in vivid ultramarine blue, the pavilion transforms ordinary materials into a celebration of reuse and renewal. Lightweight, translucent fabric panels soften its edges, creating a tactile interplay of light and shadow with a biophilic pattern that evokes dappled sunlight through vegetation.
After its intended seasonal use, it will be dismantled and circulated back into the city’s scaffolding , leaving a legacy of transformative, ephemeral, collective spaces in Montpellier. Catnap / Sieste de Chat celebrates the delight of indulgence and sensory exploration, inviting visitors to savor the pleasures of light, shade, touch, and space.
